What I Want From Mortal Kombat X

What I Want From Mortal Kombat X

Ever since the first official Mortal Kombat X trailer hit the interwebs yesterday I can’t stop thinking about all the things I want from that game.

Since every other gaming news outlet ran an article breaking down their Mortal Kombat X wishlist I figured I should weigh in as well. It is one of my all-time favorite video game franchises after all. Feel free to leave a comment below letting me know what you think of my list or if there’s anything I didn’t mention that you would like to see as well.

Interactive Environments

What I Want From Mortal Kombat X

It’s no secret that I wasn’t a huge fan of Injustice when it first came out, but after spending a year with the Injustice iOS game and then re-visiting the console version I have a new appreciation for NetherRealm Studios’ other fighting game. The one aspect I really want to see brought over from Injustice to Mortal Kombat X is the interactive environments. Sure, we’ve all seen multi-tiered fighting arenas before (hell, even Mortal Kombat 3 had them back in 1995), but Injustice really made each stage feel unique. Mortal Kombat is already known for its memorable environments, but I want them to feel like actual characters themselves, just like in Injustice.

A Completely New Story

What I Want From Mortal Kombat X

I loved the last Mortal Kombat game for a lot of reasons, mainly though because it retold my three favorite MK stories (Mortal Kombat 1, 2, and 3) in one complete tale. I know some people don’t care much about the Mortal Kombat story, but for me its what got me hooked on the franchise to begin with. Sure, I loved the blood as much as the next kid, but the characters and the story are what kept me playing long after I had seen all the fatalities.

What I would like to see from Mortal Kombat X is a completely new story. It can be a reboot or a re-telling, I don’t care- I just want sometime brand new.

A New Art Direction

What I Want From Mortal Kombat X

With a new story, I want to see a whole new art direction for the game. I love the classic characters, but give me something new. As someone who frequents DeviantArt and sees artists draw amazing re-designs of Mortal Kombat characters it makes me hope Ed Boon and his team take the game in a new direction visually. Judging by the way Sub-Zero and Scorpion look in the Mortal Kombat X trailer, it seems like they are going that route and I couldn’t be happier. I love what the art department did with those two, now I can’t wait to see the rest of the roster.

Less Manly Women

What I Want From Mortal Kombat X

Ok, here’s something that’s always bothered me- Mortal Kombat women have always hit or miss. Either they look ok or they look like dudes. Come on, you know I’m right. Even Wonder Woman in Injustice looks manly. It’s time for NetherRealm Studios to take a page from Dead or Alive and make hotter female character models. I don’t care if they have to fire the lead designer or hire someone who just draws women, they just need to do something. I want to see a truly sexy Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat X.

A Little Nudity

What I Want From Mortal Kombat X

It’s time for Mortal Kombat to become truly mature. I’m not talking about full-on sex scenes or anything, but if you’re going to have, lets say, Kitana’s outfit get destroyed to the point of barely hanging on, then give us a little nip-slip or something. Mortal Kombat is supposed to be a celebration of camp and exploitation yet it never goes all the way when it comes to nudity. We live in a post God of War world, people are OK with a little sex with their violence. It’s time for video game’s M rating to be like a movie’s R rating- gimme those nips!

Agree or disagree with my list? Leave a comment and let me know.

I like the idea for outfits that break or tear. If you watch the trailer again from start to finish. You will see that SubZeros mask is on his face when he starts, but in the end it is broken off. Hell old 16 bit fighters use to do that. I think it is time to up the game some.

Been awhile since I’ve posted. Alright, I want you to keep in mind that, unless it’s a company like Gearbox that wants to show you one thing then fuck you over later, usually what you see in a game trailer, even if it’s CG like this one, you can do. We see Sub-Zero throw Scorpion into a tree, then rips a branch off another while freezing it and clubs Scorpion with it. Then Sub grabs a low hanging branch and does some gymnastic kick flips on it. I think it’s very safe to say that there will be interactive environments.

Scorpion at one point, just before he finished Sub, jumps in the air, tosses his spears at Sub, the lifts him up off the ground and slams him back down. Looks like instead of just getting a hard knockdown and waiting for your opponent to get up, you may actually be able to pull off moves while you opponent is on the ground and continue the combo. Though I think something like that should cost meter just so you can’t keep pulling those off all the time. And when you’re on the ground it would make you have to guess your opponent’s next move. Do you just get back up like normal and block the next attack, or do you hold down to delay your getting up and risk getting caught by a ground move? Adds a whole nother dimension to combat.

Last thing is that X-Rays might either go fast or have a more dynamic aspect to it. X-Rays are awesome, but they get boring to see every round because it holds up the game for a few seconds, and in a good match you don’t want to have to let up. So X-Rays are obviously still around, but hopefully they don’t take up so much time. Maybe just a strong move to a part of the body you’ve weakened will cause something to break?

The new designs look great, but I don’t want to see Sub-Zero’s face. It takes away some of the mystic about him. Without the mask it’s just some dude. Hopefully that was just a trailer thing.

Lastly, with Sub-Zero straight up using his sword, maybe weapon styles will return. There are suppose to be different combat variations of each character, not just how they look, so I could see weapons playing a bigger roll instead of just a something that gets used for a hit or two during a combo.

All I want is the final game to look 90% as good as the trailer did, I will be happy if they can pull that off

I agree with partial nudity on no longer beefy ladies. I can think of quite a few things that’d be nice to add to the last game but overall, as long as they don’t wimp out with any fatalaties and up them to more gruesome and brutal than before (a tall order), i’ll definately be getting this.

Ok read the article, didn’t read all the comments. But my two cents.

Interactive environments- There’s a very very good chance of this, simply cause they showed it off in that teaser. I’m pretty sure the team will do this again. 95% sure.

As for the story, I think it’ll be the next few games retold. Shinnok showed up at the end of MK9’s story. So yeah, as such we can expect a few from the later games rosters. My worry is, what part of MK9’s roster will crossover? Hopefully the majority of it.

On to the look & design. Design isn’t the issue in my book, but the look… they kinda shot themselves in the past, by using real actors. It’s a reason I think it took so long for a really good 3D based title to come along. Along with that, the ladies were fine in the 2D games. MK3 Sonya, still bangin’ hot. That said, I think they need to start using real models again. 3D scan – along with mo-cap. Then, the females could once again be fine. From the face down to the anatomy.

As for nudity, ain’t gonna happen. Sorry to bust the bubble. But the industry still gets mountains of flack for anything close to that nature. Yeah there’s games with tits in it, and I support it. But just won’t happen, not in our lifetime. MK is just too big. Furthermore I don’t think warner bros would want that kinda attention either. But I do know exactly where you’re coming from. Sheev’s suit is just a strap and that gets damaged too. One rip and that suit would be gone.

One thing I do want, is the ability to turn off physical damage. You can turn off blood in 9, but not damage. So even if you win a round with 50% health, your character, will still walk away with half their face falling off. Odd I know, but as much as I like MK, the over the top gore, is largely silly. But fatalities and the like are optional. The new level of bodily damage is not. And as bad as the girls may look…. they look far worse at the end of a tough round.

But yeah, game is a long way off. I’m hoping we get to see some real in game bizness come E3 (5 days away)

Pretty nice list, though if I have only the last one, I’m still fine with that.

Ah yes video games, where apparently it’s fine to tear off someone’s head and impale it to a tree, but unethical to show an uncovered breast. Common it’s already rated 17+ anyone who’d have issues seeing a lady’s gam gam’s shouldn’t be playing it in the first place. As for making the female character’s more feminine looking, I actually kinda disagree with that. There are already so many fighting games that have impractical female character’s. I do see what you mean by manly looking female character’s, but it wouldn’t make sense for a top heavy fight without strong core, back, and leg muscles to fight. I’d rather have Kitana go up with a moustache, than see her go up looking like all she did for training was get breast implates and yoga. In a game about killing the fuck out of your opponent an DOA character wouldn’t be a good fit.
