Remember Me, Paris based Dontnod Entertainment’s first game, was revealed at Gamescon this week during Capcom’s press conference.
The game puts players in the role of Nilin in Neo Paris, the year 2084. Nilin is a “memory hunter” who can steal or alter people’s memories. The authorities are uncomfortable with her having this ability so they arrest her, wipe her memories, and lock her up. She escapes prison and then begins the search for her identity.
The reveal trailer shows off a mix of open world exploration and acrobatic combat. Other than Nilin having a nice ass and wearing skin tight jeans, there was nothing too sexy about it.
A gameplay trailer was shown a little afterwards which did a better job of getting me interested.
It features a little bit of stealth combined with city exploration similar to Assassin’s Creed. The most interesting part was the “memory hunting” segment, which seems to be the game’s defining mechanic. After locating your target and sneaking up on them, your objective is to then alter their memories. It plays out similar to Ghost Trick (coincidentally another Capcom game, a good one too, you should all play it) where you manipulate non living objects to change the outcome of an event. Of course, all the events happen in the target’s head, but what new memories you create can be powerful enough for them to make drastically different decisions in the real world.
With its gameplay kitchen sink, slick huds, and strong production values, especially coming from a new studio, Remember Me looks pretty interesting. It’s being published by Capcom, hence being at their press conference, and scheduled for a May 2013 release for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
