Retro games are enjoying a resurgence with the popularity of game-collecting, HD remakes of classics like Ducktales, and just good old-fashioned nostalgia.
My personal favorites are the platformers that ruled the marketplace in the OG Nintendo days, and there’s a new one you might want to try out. Independant developer cheshireCat brings us Pendulum, a familiar 8-bit style platformer that contains a new spin most others don’t bring to the table, adult entertainment.
On the surface, Pendulum seems like a simple, high-difficulty platformer. You attempt to climb to the top of a tower trying to dodge lady-monsters and outrun the rising lava pool that’s trying to burn your taint clean off. I mean, we all played “the floor is lava” as a kid right? Well, when the aforementioned lady-monsters catch you or if you meet specific requirements during your gameplay, you’re treated to some hentai-inspired fun. While all this happens, you have to ignore the omnipresent voice mocking you along the way (think GLaDOS from Portal). Pendulum’s humor elements are all tongue-in-cheek and don’t take themselves too seriously.
The game consists of 3 gameplay modes with 5 stages each, along with twelve 8-bit adult situations…viewer discretion is advised. All in all, this is a fun old-school game that’ll really test your reflexes. Gameplay will take a few hours to 100% complete everything. There is currently a “pay-what-you-want” promotion going on, so take advantage of the opportunity while it’s still available.
You can try out the download the demo of Pendulum or purchase the full game here.
