NSFW Gamer Review: Enter the Dominatrix

Dinosaurs. Gimps. Explosions. Saints Flow.

It’s all here, and it’s all nuts. Welcome to Enter the Dominatrix, the latest expansion for Saints Row IV.

Set as a “deleted scene” addition, the Saints tell the story of their post-alien conquering adventures, and pick up some old company along the way. It’s time to show the Dominatrix who bows to whom.

NSFW Gamer Review: Enter the Dominatrix

With Enter the Dominatrix, Volition has cranked the crazy to 11 all over again, supplying us with a nice mini-episode that keeps the fun batteries charged just a little longer. Our overall setup is that after the defeat of Zinyak, the Simulation 31 AI takes on its own identity, and creates the self-aware Dominatrix persona to keep the Saints in line. It’s all presented in a recounted interview format featuring long-time Saints mainstay reporter, Jane Valderama, and makes up for her curious absence from the main game. Over the course of the new missions, you’ll bounce back and forth between the ship and the simulation, with the crew filling in the scene-by-scene playback before the game returns you to taking on the new enemy. It’s also patched together with editing cuts and two-dimensional storyboard sequences which play out like a motion comic. It’s not the funniest the Saints have ever been, but it works in this context.

Where it works best is some of the crazier story elements, which I won’t spoil here, but if you got a good laugh out of the original missile-riding opening, then you’ll be rolling on the floor again by the time you reach the Dominatrix finale. As for the Dominatrix herself, she handles much like the Wardens of the simulation, but her sequences seem more concentrated and her health bar less drawn-out. It also helps that you’ll fight her, then her gimps, then return to fighting her with the same health she was at, keeping the combat variety flowing without losing progress. She also doesn’t jump all around the map like the Wardens, so that’s a big improvement.

If there were anything I would’ve liked to see more of, it’s the promised return of old characters. I think it would’ve been great to see Carlos make a comeback, and it’s entirely possible given the “good” ending of the main game. Enter the Dominatrix is more about adding in the laughs than increasing your length of stay with the game as I finished it in one evening, but it squeezes in just enough new ideas and gameplay elements to justify its price tag. Of course, if you grab this and the next expansion on the Season Pass, you’re getting even more bang for your buck.

Volition also hasn’t forgotten to push the envelope with adult themes, either. The tit-ular Dominatrix is no stranger to leather and studs, and her female gimp soldiers are dressed in even smaller outfits than she is. The DLC also starts off in the penthouse, so there’s a welcome return of Saints strippers making their moves. A romp through the Dominatrix’s sex club also lends some naughty fun as you’re automatically slammed into BDSM gear for a disguise while you beat down her minions. As for the costume pack DLC’s, the “GAT V” (that’s Gat 5, in case you fell for Volition’s troll on twitter) pack allows old school fans to dress their character as Aisha in her classic ghetto girl outfit, while the “Grass Roots” pack will let you play the game as your ideal farmer’s daughter. If that’s not your bag, the “Wild West” pack lets you dress as a saloon sweetheart, and each comes with a new weapon that add just a little more crazy to the way you play. With as much parody as Volition has squeezed in, all it needs to do is throw us a sex mini-game a la God of War to cross the Rubicon and bring us full circle.

I need to get off my ass, and pick this up, and the new BL2 pack.

Sounds like fun, and may give me some ideas for doodlin’ some more adult Saints action.

I still want Kinzie’s super homie outfit though… make that DLC… and I shall buy it asap.

@Bloodfart – Played the BL2 Halloween DLC the other night. It’s cool, but really short (like only 90min or so). Still, the price is good and it’s more Borderlands so you can’t go wrong

  3. DevilSugar says:

BL2 needs to hurry to Vita! I’ll hardly be playing anything else once it drops. As for you, Mr. Pantyhamster, I would love to see more Saints hentai!

  4. Bloodfart says:

Yeah got both, played both. The BL2 was fine, the Pumkin’ Kingpin was a decent boss. And as far as holiday themed content.. was a worthwhile endeavor for 3 bones.

The enter the dominatrix… kinda fell a little short of my expectations though, I wanted more kink and innuendo from the villain. The best thing with the villain, is drawn piece that shows off her backside. Beyond that, they didn’t really give her many lines, she’s merely a thug.

The gimp suit for the fem boss is nice though. I would appreciate it if you could remove the mask though. Ah well.

On a bizarre note though… they messed with the “cover your nips” now you can no longer color them, they’re just black?

Yeah… I couldn’t find the raw data to delete the update either. This was actually the NSFW Gamer’s mascot gaming debut 😀 She was supposed to have pink nips, but Volition said it wasn’t meant to be.
