NSFW Gamer Cosplay Spotlight – Anna Cherry

And now for the worlds of NSFW and cosplay to collide, we bring our first Cosplay Deviants interview with none other than Anna Cherry.

Featured in the past multiple times on the site, it only seems right to get to know her better. A lucky few of you may get the opportunity to know her better than our interview allows, but more on that in a minute.

The self-proclaimed “biggest perv she knows” might be one of the most down-to-Earth people I’ve ever interacted with, speaking with almost shocking honesty on her Tumblr and Cosplay Deviants blog about her life, circumstances, and general opinions. Trust me when I say she’s a fascinating “ask me anything” type of woman. Some of you just may get the chance to ask her anything- she’ll be at the AVN Expo Clips4Sale booth next week in Las Vegas’s Hard Rock Hotel and Casino! For the rest of us, there’s always pervy dreams.

NSFW Gamer: How long have you been cosplaying?
Anna Cherry: Trick question! My first awareness of the practice and subsequent desire to participate can be set to somewhere 2006 – 2008.

What made you want to get into cosplaying?
Peer pressure. In combination with exhibitionism. Everyone was having so much fun dressing up at Dragon*Con and I had so many literary and otherwise heroes that I wanted to be and wanted be seen as that it was just something I instantly jumped into without hesitation.

What’s your favorite costume to wear?
Another trick question! All of my costumes make me feel differently when I wear them and I love all of my solo cosplay characters like children. Probably my most favorite one to dress up and embody is either Lilith from Borderlands or Major Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell series.

What was the hardest costume you’ve worked on?
That is a toss-up between Amy Sorel (Soul Calibur IV version) and Lilith. It is difficult to decide between the two because Amy was my very first green, virginal attempt at cosplay-making, done in about a week’s rush of crafting while Lilith took many months of planning and supply gathering, had an infinitely more difficult costume (not even counting the body art), also about a week’s rush of sewing but after I was much more experienced in making complex costumes. So making Lilith was technically harder, but it was a much more enjoyable process and didn’t make as much “Ermergerd! Erm Merkern Cerspley!” impact as did my very first handmade costume.

What costume(s) are you working on currently?
*MELODRAMATIC SIGH*
Everybody probably knows this story by now, basically all of my hard-earned sweat-blood-and-tears costumes were stolen in a car break-in recently so there has been a hefty amount of “re-working” on resurrecting my favorite cosplays. As far as new stuff is concerned, I can’t give any specific details just yet but 99% of my cosplay work is concentrated on Cosplay Deviants and I have a couple of duo sets planned with two lovely co-models and most of them are anime characters. My dream solo cosplays, on which I am also slowly working, include a lot of League of Legends characters.

What cons do you attend and which one is your favorite?
Dragon*Con has always been a huge part of my adult nerd and cosplay life, I have attended it at least 5 out of last 7 years. Local cons are always fun for some relaxed cosplay. I have never been to any West Coast conventions so now that I have moved my nefarious lair, SDCC and the like are on my radar.

What’s your favorite part about cosplaying?
The transformative power of cosplay. Bringing a beloved character to life, in 3D. It is equal parts acting for shy people; modeling; exhibitionism; nerding out; and a personal challenge, be it in wearing or making the costume. Cosplaying is pretty epic and I do enjoy the attention :)

What characters inspire you?
Difficult question. I very much loathe this “strong woman” archetype shoved in our collective faces through all entertainment mediums, yet I can’t help but fit some parts of it and I always choose characters in whom I find a reflection. In a way, strong characters inspire me but in my definition strength is measured by altruism, loyalty, kindness, bravery, perseverance, and a sense of adventure. I am also inspired by hot redheads and red hotheads in slinky outfits. Those are also my reflections 😉

What’s your favorite thing about NSFW Gamer?
After that NSFW post feature on Jinx, my brain has a difficulty thinking …of anything, really. That pretty much sums it up. And your nice cosplay reviews don’t hurt either!

Nice interview. And the pictures are pretty nice too. Wish she could go Midwestern cons.

There are Midwestern cons? I’m living in a small town in Wisconsin, so I thought my conning days were over. Which ones do you go to?

  3. Trevor says:

Funny story, I tried to become a member of Cosplay Deviants, sadly CCBill (the payment system they use) has my country blacklisted by default and according to CD web support guy it can’t be changed. :(

@Trevor – Damn, that sucks. Where do you live?

  5. Trevor says:
