Dead Space 3 info is finally being released by EA and it appears that the game will focus heavily on co-op.
Isaac Clarke, the scared and reluctant hero of the series, will be paired with the gruff John Carver from the recent Dead Space 3 digital comic.
Normally, the Dead Space series focuses on isolation and survival, like any good survival horror game should. This time around, EA is trying to give gamers a different experience via drop-in drop-out co-op. In order to get the full story experience for the game, co-op will be required as there are hints and aspects that only Carver will notice and comment on. The two heroes are set to represent opposing focuses, with Isaac’s determination to find and rescue his companion Ellie, and Carver’s blind mission to eradicate the new marker and the necromorphs.
While new forms of necromorphs are expected, EA has revealed that the environment and crazed Unitologists will also be common threats. No further info has been provided on the environmental dangers, but the game’s setting is an ice planet named Uxor, so expect snow avalanches and frozen paths. The addition of regular combat against armed foes might hint at more traditional weapons as opposed to Issac’s re-purposed tools.
Developers tend to wait until the 4th or 5th game in a series before they start shaking things up. From what’s been shown so far, coupled with the knowledge of Isaac’s past events, it appears the story and gameplay is being adapted to reflect his progression from a simple engineer to a hardcore zombie ass-kicker. The two announcements by EA that has stood out to me the most is that they promise to explain the truth behind the Necromorphs, and that the horrible multiplayer component from Dead Space 2 will not be returning.
