Dante’s Inferno demo – Just like God of War, tits and all

Dante's Inferno Demo Nude Uncensored

I finally got around to playing the Dante’s Inferno demo today after downloading it a week ago. Even though I knew the game had nudity in it for some reason I just couldn’t muster up the enthusiasm to play it. Now I know why.

The demo starts with a little bit of back story (apparently this version of Dante is a badass Crusader fighting for the Holy Land and not some wimpy poet) then you are thrust into battle…against captive civilians with knives. Needless to say they don’t stand too much of a chance against you and your mega-axe. It isn’t until one of them sneaks up on you and puts a knife in your back, sending you to meet Death itself, that the game really begins.

After beating the piss out of Death with his own scythe (don’t get me started on how lame it is that you die by the hands of a backstabbing coward but then proceed to stand up to Death and kick his ass), and thus nullifying your one-way ticket to Hell, you go home to find your loving wife murdered.

Much like God of War’s Kratos, this really pisses Dante off… but wait it gets worse. Bending over to kiss Beatrice’s dead face (or boob) goodbye, Dante witnesses her spirit release itself from her body and take physical (nude) shape. Just when it seems that Beatrice is going to Heaven a black figure grabs her and drags her straight to Hell. Damn. Now you have to go get her back.

The rest of the demo has you beating the crap out of anything that gets in your way. You wield magic spells, ride beasts and dismember demons by the bus load. While fighting you can perform combos with your light and heavy attacks, launch enemies in the air, or grab them and chose to “Damn” or “Absolve” them of their sins (either or will give you certain power points to distribute).  If you get hurt you heal yourself with green holy water and you can replenish your magic with purple. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Aside from the “Damning” or “Absolving” of your enemies Dante’s Inferno is a straight God of War clone.

Obviously I shouldn’t pass judgement on Dante’s Inferno until the full game comes out but if the demo is any indication of the final product then I have to ask, “what’s the point?” The demo doesn’t do anything wrong, there is nothing broken and the combat is responsive, but it brings absolutely nothing new to the table. Maybe I’ve played the God of War 3 demo too many times because even the “beast riding” in Dante’s Inferno seems like old news. Well, at least there is nudity in Dante’s Inferno (yea, there was nudity in GoW also) so that pretty much guarantees I will have to play it at some point.

The only thing that I am remotely intrigued by is the “Lust” circle of Hell. I’ve seen a few screen shots and it looks like there might be giant monster boobs abound…which I find hot for some reason. Oh, and then there is the prospect of seeing more of Beatrice’s ta-tas. I do have to applaud EA and Visceral for putting this much nudity into a demo, and in all likelihood the game itself, it’s just a shame that everything else is so uninspired.

Before going I should mention that the Dante’s Inferno demo did one thing exceptionally well – It got me super excited to play God of War 3.

I got my copy yesterday (1 day ahead of launch) and played it for about an hour. I must say I am completely blown away by it. The visuals give it such a cinematic feel, I was genuinely excited as I played. Not many games have had the same effect.
